Much of the work of our Community Health Initiatives is done at the community level by working closely with community-based nonprofits and local public agencies committed to the goals of healthy eating and active living. But we also pursue these goals through active participation in a number of national and state partners working to promote healthy policy changes at all levels of government and the private sector.
When First Lady Michelle Obama created her “Let’s Move” campaign to combat childhood obesity in 2010, we cofounded the Partnership for a Healthier America to secure meaningful commitments from the private sector in support of the campaign’s goals. We are also founding members of the Healthy Eating Active Living Convergence Partnership, which works to promote equity-focused, multi-field efforts for policy change that enables healthy people and healthy places. And in California, we are working with the statewide HEAL Cities Campaign to replicate in other states its successful program of promoting municipal policy changes that support access to healthy food and physical activity.
