Our approach to community health has been cited as a national model by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Institute of Medicine, with whom we closely collaborate. It also informs First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign, announced in 2010, for which we’re playing a major support role through the Partnership for a Healthier America, of which we are a founding member.
We also work closely with the Healthy Eating Active Living Convergence Partnership, which we helped create, to shape important health reform measures that address the socioeconomic determinants of obesity. In California, we’re investing in community-based prevention through the statewide HEAL Cities Campaign, which supports environmental and policy change programs in nearly 100 communities.
In 2010, we helped our partners in more than 40 CHI communities expand access to healthy foods, renovate neglected parks, build hiking and biking trails, and in many other ways make healthy choices the easier choices – a fact borne out by rigorous, independent evaluations of our work.
