The Center for Effectiveness
and Safety Research
Our new Center for Effectiveness and Safety Research (CESR), established in 2009, is leveraging Kaiser Permanente’s research infrastructure and integrated health care system to study the effectiveness and safety of new drugs, devices, and therapeutic practices – knowledge that will enable clinicians and patients to have the best information available for care and treatment decision making. In 2010, CESR launched two internally funded research studies and also began participation in two federally sponsored research initiatives, including the Food and Drug Administration’s Mini-Sentinel Initiative, a pilot study for the planned, two-year federal effort to create an active surveillance system using electronic health data for more than 60 million people.
