Sharing a Common Language for HIT

In 2010, Kaiser Permanente donated its Convergent Medical Technology (CMT) – the result of years of work – to the International Healthcare Terminology Standards Development Organization for U.S. distribution to all health care providers. CMT is the technology that underpins KP HealthConnect, the organization’s electronic health record. It translates medical terms within the EHR into common terms that patients and other clinicians can understand, thus helping to boost the nation’s transition from paper-based medical records to electronic health records.
