New Health Knowledge

The development and sharing of new knowledge about health care and medicine have been core components of our work since Kaiser Permanente’s founding 65 years ago. Today, our research programs constitute one of the largest and most distinguished health care research enterprises in the nation.

Our research is quickly translated into new and more effective clinical care for our members, and it is shared through publication and research partnerships. In 2010, we invested $157 million in research, a 26 percent increase over 2009. Our researchers conducted close to 3,800 research studies and published more than 900 articles in leading professional journals.

To better leverage that knowledge in our own communities and with health care leaders internationally, we work closely with hundreds of public and private partners, from local school districts to state and federal agencies and health care systems around the world. And our medical education programs train and provide scholarships for thousands of tomorrow’s physicians and frontline medical professionals every year.
