Care and Coverage programs
Our various Care and Coverage programs are designed to address the health care needs of individuals and families in our communities who, due to financial circumstances, are unable to obtain needed health services. Our programs lower financial barriers to care, provide free or deeply subsidized health coverage, and improve access to public health care programs for eligible individuals. In responding to the growing numbers of low-income and uninsured individuals in 2010, we increased our investment in these programs by 12 percent over 2009, to a total of $1.4 billion.
In addition, we continued to partner with the Center for Health Care Strategies to improve care and reduce avoidable emergency department visits and hospitalizations for Medicaid patients with multiple co-morbidities or high-risk conditions.
