The Gulf Coast Rebuilding Project
2010 marked the fourth year of Kaiser Permanente's Gulf Coast Rebuilding Project
Partnering with HandsOn Mississippi and HandsOn New Orleans, nonprofit organizations that facilitate volunteerism, 60 of our physicians and employees, representing each of our operational regions, traveled to the Gulf Coast to engage in the rebuilding effort.
The Gulf Coast Rebuilding Project is part of Kaiser Permanente's long-term commitment to help the people of the Gulf Coast recover and rebuild after the devastating hurricanes of 2005.
Our projects in 2010 included:
- Rebuilding of a local middle school's walkways and computer lab
- Removal of invasive plants and clean up the Biloxi Bay wetlands
- Partnering with Camp Victor crew to rebuild and finish homes
- Providing health screenings for homeless and uninsured residents
- Putting finishing touches on a community clinic
- Building a playground in partnership with KaBoom.
