That’s why Kaiser Permanente invests in the communities we serve. We aim to make real and lasting change by:
We see the work of creating healthy communities as a shared effort. Each year we partner with about 50 organizations that are embedded in community health work in our area. It is estimated that this work has affected more than 1 million people in the Northwest Region. We take pride in these collaborations and the opportunity to help build greater health capacity and sustainability in the region.
We also take great pride in our regional Kaiser Permanente employees, physicians, and dentists, who help improve our communities through their involvement and volunteerism.
By working together, we can do more to make our communities healthier and stronger for all.
Our community benefit efforts are recognized annually by the Portland Business Journal with its award for philanthropic giving. In 2011, our contributions to the Kaiser Permanente Northwest region totaled nearly $121 million. This included more than $79 million in care and coverage for low-income people and more than $37 million for medical education and research. We also gave more than $5 million to support various community health initiatives, safety net partnerships, and community events.
