Our Work

Walking: A Healthy Option for People and Communities

In 2011, The Every Body Walk! campaign was launched to inform adults about the overall health benefits of walking.  All it takes is 30 minutes , five days a week to have a meaningful health impact.

Every Body Walk! is powered by Kaiser Permanente and complements the important work we are doing along with  our community partners to promote safe walking and other forms of “active transportation” through changes in the built environment and other community-based prevention efforts.

The goal of Every Body Walk! is to provoke a national conversation about the health benefits of walking and what we can do together to address the barriers to making walking a part of everyday life. A walking hub, www.everybodywalk.org, contains news and resources on walking, health information, walking maps and links to walking groups and pedestrian advocacy organizations. At the centerpiece of the of the walking campaign is a series of video vignettes featuring civic leaders, walking advocates and everyday people  sharing motivational stories about how walking has changed their lives and what communities have done to promote active transportation.

Within Kaiser Permanente’s own workforce, a parallel campaign called KP Walk! was also launched to encourage our employees to “walk the talk” and make walking a part of their everyday activity.
