Amazing Food Detective

Designed to help fight childhood obesity, The Incredible Adventures of the Amazing Food Detective is an online game that educates children (ages 9 to 10) about healthy food choices and being active. The game is based on a popular Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre Program character: the Amazing Food Detective. Children playing the game follow the daily routines of eight young, multi-ethnic characters and help them make healthy choices. The game automatically shuts off after 20 minutes and encourages players to get active. The Incredible Adventures of the Amazing Food Detective is available in both Spanish and English. Kaiser Permanente, in partnership with Scholastic, Inc., is distributing 10,000 CD-ROMs to more than 5,000 public schools this fall, along with a teaching guide and lesson plan for teachers, a take-home package for kids and parents, and other materials. A recent survey of classroom teachers who received the game and learning materials found 79 percent considered the game effective, useful, and fun.
