Fresno celebrates 25 years of care

In spring 1986, five dedicated physicians began providing pediatric and adult primary care to about 500 Kaiser Permanente members in Fresno. A quarter century later, that number has grown to more than 100,000 residents throughout Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare counties.

“Taking care of these members today is the job of 245 physicians practicing 31 different medical specialties,” says Varoujan Altebarmakian, MD, physician in chief at our Fresno Medical Center. “Some of our latest technologies include endovascular surgery, radiation oncology, and reproductive endocrinology.”

Some fun facts about Fresno:

  • In 1991 and 1992, we completed the first phases of our Fresno Medical Center at North Fresno Street and Alluvial Avenue.
  • The hospital opened in 1995 and has grown from 121 to 169 beds.
  • We now employ just over 2,000 employees at Kaiser Permanente medical facilities in Fresno, Clovis, Selma, and Oakhurst.

“We’ve put down deep roots in the Central Valley, and we’re thrilled to be celebrating 25 years of caring for our members,” says Jeff Collins, senior vice president and area manager. “Through our Community Benefit programs, we’re also celebrating strong partnerships with schools and service organizations that share our commitment to the health and well-being of all the communities we serve.”
