Mark your calendars for a day of fun and fitness

Whether you’re 5 or 65, it’s never too early — or too late — to get started on the road to fitness. That’s why we’re inviting you to join us on Sunday, Oct. 23, for a day of hiking at Round Valley Regional Preserve.

We are teaming up with Save Mount Diablo, a nonprofit land preservation organization, to lead the hikes. All Kaiser Permanente members and your families and friends — regardless of age or fitness level — are welcome. You can choose from three levels of hikes, starting at 9 a.m.:

  • Easy: Play in the creek canyon or spread out a picnic; one to two miles, 100-foot elevation gain.
  • Moderate: Up the canyon into and around the valley; two to six miles, 200-foot elevation gain.
  • Workout: Hardy Canyon loop; five miles, 800-foot elevation gain.

Round Valley’s 2,070 acres offer a glimpse of what the East Bay looked like before it was developed. The large, hidden valley near Brentwood is surrounded by high ridges and hills, and crossed by a creek lined with huge valley oaks. It’s a prime habitat for the endangered San Joaquin kit fox and the threatened red-legged frog.

Preregister for the hikes by sending us an email and telling us the number of people in your party. And to make sure your day stays healthy and fun, don’t forget to bring water, a hat, and sunscreen.

Your baby questions, answered

Are you expecting a baby or planning for one? Then you’ll want to watch our Antioch Medical Center birth experience video, which gives you a feel for what to expect and introduces you to members of our staff.

“We created the video called Your Birth Experience to give mothers-to-be a sense of what the journey might be like,” says Mary Klemm, DO, assistant chief of staff for Maternal/Child/Gynecologic Services at our Antioch Medical Center.

“Pregnancy is a very exciting time in a woman’s life,” she says, “but it also comes with a lot of questions. This video gives us a way to provide some answers and share our care goals for both mother and baby, even before the first prenatal visit.”

Learn more about pregnancy and parenting from our Online Pregnancy Center— where you can also download a birthing plan.
