Make summer cooking easy

“Take advantage of summer fruits in season,” says Di Leung, a registered dietitian at our West Los Angeles Medical Center.

Fresh fruit is a delicious, low-calorie, cholesterol-free food that’s rich in fiber. You can eat it, juice it, blend it into smoothies, or freeze it to make ice pops for the kids.

Is your garden overflowing with tomatoes? Carol Scroggs, a registered dietitian at our Los Angeles Medical Center, suggests making cold gazpacho soup or a bruschetta sauce to spread on crusty whole-grain bread. Got beans? Make a salad with fresh green beans and tiny red potatoes.

Our farmers markets are bursting with local summer fruits and vegetables, fresh from growers. Kaiser Permanente farmers markets are open year-round at the following locations:

  • Los Angeles: Wednesdays from noon to 6 p.m. at Barnsdall Art Park in the parking lot between Vermont Avenue and Edgemont Street, 4800 Hollywood Blvd.
  • West Los Angeles: Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the plaza at our West Los Angeles Medical Center, 6041 Cadillac Ave.
