Preventive care is serious business. Kaiser Permanente takes it so seriously that we’ve set Guinness World Records for providing preventive services to our members in San Diego.
We set our first record with a drive-through flu shot event in 2010, where we gave the most vaccinations in 8 hours at a single location — 6,215 flu shots. The success of this initiative led Kaiser Permanente in San Diego to set up a monthly prevention program, with the aim of breaking a record at every one.
Over the course of the year, we set or broke Guinness World Records for cervical cancer screenings, blood pressure readings, colon cancer screenings, eye tests, skin cancer screenings, and diabetes health screenings.
In addition to giving our community bragging rights, these records inspire members. “It has really motivated people to take responsibility for their own health,” says Annie Russell, RN, associate medical group administrator. “I heard people say,
‘I wouldn’t have had my mammogram if it weren’t for this event,’ so it highlighted the importance of prevention.”
